Commission Policies As a freelance miniatures painter I am always interested in doing commission work. Any miniature from any manufacturer is fair game; just because I've worked for (and love) a certain Texas based one doesn't mean I only paint their product. I do not usually accept commissions for squads or units of miniatures for several reasons. I am much happier when painting small groups of minis; having an army staring me down from my painting table is pretty darned intimidating. Usually a three- or five-pack of grunts or models is pretty fun to do, but the ten- to a dozen-miniature boxes are quite daunting. If you have a large group of models you want me to paint I will still take on the commission, but only in small chunks at a time. This allows me to not get too spooked by a huge workload while also ensuring I can accommodate other customers between sets. Ok, ok, it's mostly for my sanity, but you get the idea. My starting price for commission work is $150.00 (USD) per miniature. This reflects the total amount of time prepping, painting, and handling your miniature with a reasonable hourly rate for the work. Note that this refers to a standard humanoid figure in the 25mm to 30mm range; larger figures or intricately detailed miniatures will cost more accordingly. I will paint the miniature to the highest level I can manage; a quick perusal of my gallery will give you a general idea of my skill level. If there are particular guidelines or styles you would like me to use I must be notified before the price is settled upon. This includes NMM/Shaded Metallics, color choices, basing, conversion, sculpting, etc. Once we have agreed to all types of work to be done on the miniature I will quote a price and stick to it. The flip side is you will stick to your statement of work; any changes made to your request after the miniature has started will possibly increase the price of the commission. I, of course, am willing to accomodate simple requests, i.e. "Can that be a little darker there, can her skin be a bit lighter", etc., but not, "Hm, the red enameled armor looks good on that knight in full plate, but can I see it in green?". You can either ship me the miniature to be painted or I can purchase the miniature. Once again, this must be deliberated before the price is quoted. After the miniature is painted and based I will send pictures to you for your approval. Once I receive payment I will ship your purchase within two to three business days. The images of the completed work will remain my property to be used in any way I see fit (generally posted in my gallery or printed out for classroom flyers or portfolios). The miniature as purchased by you will be for your own private use and may not be entered into any contest or in any way credited as having been painted by anyone other than myself (most contests I know of have that rule anyway, just stating it here for clarity). You may publish images of the miniature as you see fit as long as I have accreditation and you notify me of its use in an email prior to its use for my approval. Note that except for large commissions I will not ask for payment up front but only after the work is completed (once again, any deviations from this will be agreed upon before work starts). If, after all agreements have been made, you decide not to purchase the miniature one of two things will happen. If I purchased the miniature to be painted it will remain my own personal property to do with as I see fit. If you sent in the miniature to be painted I will attempt to strip it and bring it close to its original condition in the case of rare or custom sculpts; if it is an easily available miniature I may purchase a new one to send to you to replace it. If partial payment was received in advance you will be refunded the entire amount of your payment minus any shipping charges that may be incurred. Note that I cannot guarantee stripping a miniature will divest it of all paint and primer or that it will not be damaged (though, since I love miniatures, I will do everything I can to ensure it will not happen). Since I will be updating you with photos and progress reports throughout the process I do not see this paragraph as being necessary, but I think it is better to plan for any eventuality. So, in a nutshell, I like painting miniatures. I will be glad to paint a miniature for you. I just want to be sure both you and I know everything up front so nobody is taken by surprise or confused about the process. If you are of stalwart heart and still willing to purchase my services, you may contact me via the link to the left and I will contact you as soon as possible.
